Notes
A scratchpad to jot things down while you work, saved with your session or exported to a text file.
Opening Notes
You can open the notes panel in two ways. Click Notes in the toolbar, or press Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) and type notes.
What it is
Notes is a plain text box that stays open alongside your data. It is not tied to one file, so you can jump between tabs without losing what you wrote. Use it to track what you have done, write down things you notice, or keep a to-do list while cleaning a file.
Auto-saving and Lifecycle
Your notes are saved automatically as you type. A small indicator shows the save status as Saving or Saved. Notes stay in the app for the length of your session. They are cleared automatically when you close the last open file, so they do not pile up across unrelated work.
Saving and Importing Notes
If you want a note to outlive the session, click Save to write it to a text file on disk. You can pick the location and file name. Click Import to bring an existing text file’s contents into the notes panel. This is useful if you have instructions or checklists you want to reference while working.
Notes and Sessions
When you save a .bigxl session with File > Save session, your notes are included in the session file. When you reopen that session, the notes come back exactly as they were. This keeps your thoughts and data tied together.
Clearing Notes
You can clear the notes from the panel at any time. If the notes were imported from a file, BigXL asks for confirmation before clearing. This prevents you from losing work by accident.
